Taiwan's Golf excellency has made important marks internationally. Back in the 70s, Taiwan golf players competing all around the world, winning pride and respect for our country. Such was hall-of-famer Ms. Ai-Yu Tu, lead our Taiwanese ladies professionals, to dominate the Japan LPGA Tour in that era. The admiring golf fans in Japan named them the “Taiwan Hurricane”.
However, as the government policy shifts unfavorably, the number of new player dropped drastically in the next generations, and with the rise of other competitive countries, female golf in Taiwan went quiet going into the 90s.
With joint efforts of civil organizations and individuals, there are finally some exciting results. Our member Yani Tseng in beginning of 2011's 4 win streak (a US Tour win, two European Tour wins and one Taiwan Tour win), and in Febuary becomes Women’s Rolex Ranking no. 1 player, for 109 consecutive weeks. Yani is no doubtly the “Taiwan Glory” as she let the world rediscover Taiwan, and inspired the resurgence of Taiwanese female golf movement, attracting junior players to seriously train for professional careers.
