Chien Pei Yun (錢珮芸) of Taiwan fired a final-round 69, overcoming a three-shot deficit to clinch her second career TLPGA victory at the NT$600,000 Chung Cheng Heritage Tour.
Chien’s 35-34 final round at the Chang Gung Golf Club included six birdies and three bogeys, defeating fellow Taiwanese Cheng Meng-Chu (陳孟竺) by three strokes with a clubhouse score of 143. This was Chien’s second TLPGA victory after Taichung TLPGA Tour (TLPGA巡迴賽台中站) in 2011 as she received a NT$110,000 winner prize.
It was head-to-head combat between Chien and Cheng throughout the first half of Wednesday’s final round. Cheng sank a birdie putt on Hole 10 to pull even with Chien but could not continue the momentum as she saw her chance dwindle with a bogey on the next hole while Chien made birdie to regain a two-shot lead, which carried her to the long-anticipated victory.
“My last win was after I trained in Korea thanks to the sponsoring of the Swinging Skirts Golf Team, this time I win it with my own experiences I gained on the China LPGA and the Symetra Tour,” said Chien. “I feel that I’ve grown a lot as a player over the last two years, two years of pressure to keep up the first one. I’m very happy.”
Final group of first round leaders Lynn Chiu (邱齡緹) and Huang Hsien-Wen (黃賢雯) had a disappointing finish after final-rounds of 78 and 75 respectively. Huang dropped in a tie for third with Kuo Ai-Chen (郭艾榛) at 147, and Chiu’s 149 lay in a tie for eighth with Yvonne Weng (翁子琁).
Partnered with the leading group on the final day was Chen Zhi-Min (陳之敏) in Group Amateurs of Women’s 16-25, who carded an even better score than Chiu with a 5-over 77 to find herself atop in her division at 150.
“Chung Cheng Golf Foundation is honored to have the chance to present the two Heritage Tour events,” said Wang Wen-Chao (王文潮), Chairman of the Chung Cheng Golf Foundation. “The concept is great and I hope the youngsters had a fun time playing with the pros so closely.”
This week’s event followed as the third event – second for the Heritage Series -- presented by Chung Cheng Golf Foundation after the Chung Cheng Heritage Tour in June, and the grand Chung Cheng Ladies Open in July. The Heritage Tour serves up the chance for younger talents to play along with the pros and learn. |
