Lynn Chiu (邱齡緹) carded a one-under 71 in the beautifully sunny first round of the Chung Cheng Heritage Tour at the Chang Gung Golf Club, taking the clubhouse lead to the final second round by one shot over Huang Hsien-Wen (黃賢雯).
Sun beamed down on the greens of the day one at the final stop of the Heritage Series events; however, there was only one player managed to walk away with an under-par score.
Chiu, the fourth-year TLPGA member who has yet to win a title, made four birdies but had a hard time on the South Course for the back nine and suffered three bogeys with the scores of 33-38.
“I used to train at this place for four year so I was feeling pretty comfortable on this one,” said Chiu. “But the winds made it hard to read the grass, especially on the South Course, it was pretty tough.”
“I had a practice with Ms. Huang Yueh-Chyn (黃玥珡) yesterday. She was so nice and told me I have to trust in my shots more and attack more,” said the 25-year-old Chiu. “That gave me a lot of confidence in today’s round and I hope I can do the same tomorrow.”
Huang Hsien-Wen put up an even par 72 with a mere 25 putts. The only trouble she was in was on the par-5 Hole No.5 on the Central Course when she chipped short and missed her putter to take a double-bogey.
“I’ve been taking systematic work-out for two years and I’m feeling much stronger,” said Huang. “I’m hitting with more consistency and distance now and I’m glad the results are coming in.”
Yvonne Weng (翁子琁) of Taiwan made an opening round scores of 36-37 to sit in a two-way tie at third with Cheng Meng-Chu (陳孟竺). “I went to watch to whole four rounds of the Sunrise LPGA Taiwan Championships (揚昇LPGA台灣錦標賽). It was incredible to actually see the world’s best play in front of you,” said Weng. “It was a very positive learning experience.”
Besides Group Professionals, Group Amateurs of Men’s/Women’s 16-25, Boys’/Girls’ 12-16, and Juniors’ 8-12 were all underway. The winner in Group Professionals will receive a NT$110,000 prize check with a total prize of NT$600,000.
The Chung Cheng Heritage Tour brings curtains down on the 2013 Heritage Tour, serving up the chance for younger talents to play along with the pros and learn in the five pro-junior events. It is also the third event presented by Chung Cheng Golf Foundation after the Chung Cheng Heritage Tour in June and the grand Chung Cheng Ladies Open in July. |
