TLPGA official money list leader Lu Ya-Huei (呂雅惠) successfully defended her title at the second annual TLPGA South Taiwan Open at the Takangshan Golf Course . This was her first victory of the 2013 season.
Lu put up a 2-under 70 at 206 to beat amateur Chen Yu-Ju (陳宇茹) by three strokes, who hit the lowest round for two days in a row after a 5-under 67 to completed at 209.
The course’s condition is amazing and I feel very lucky here,” said Lu, who was also the champion here last year. “It feels nice to finally do it again.” The 38-year-old finished runner-up at the Fubon Ladies Open (富邦公開賽) and third-place at the CTBC Ladies Open (中國信託公開賽), and held another three top-10 finishes, but finally locked a title this time to justify a career year.
Lu collected NT$500,000 for her victory in the $2,500,000 event. She will play in the Swinging Skirt World Ladies Masters in December, which concludes her 2013 season.
Chen Yu-Ju opened the day with a 6-shot deficit but was playing an almost blemish-free round with six birdies, including a chip-in out of a sand trap on par-4 15th, and just one bogey.
“I was feeling extremely focused. I feel like I can go for the flagstick on every hole,” said Chen. The runner-up finish has recorded her career best. Chen scored 15 birdies throughout the tournament which outclassed Lu’s 13, but special prize “Birdie Queen” goes to Lu for her amateur status.
Hsu Wei-Ling (徐薇淩), winner of 2013 Credit Union Challenge on the Symetra Tour, carded five birdies and one bogey and ground up her place to solo number three with the score of 211, taking home the runner-up prize of NT$250,000.
Philippine Cyna Rodriguez faded out of the leading circle after having consecutive bogeys through Hole 6, 7, and 8, ending in a tie for tenth at 216 after a 76 final-round. Two-time TLPGA winning amateur Cheng Ssu-Chia’s 程思嘉2-over 74 also put her down in a tie for eighth.
Another highlight for the final Friday was to see 60 international golfers battling out for the TLPGT Qualify Test (TLPGT台巡賽資格賽) for 2014, first ever edition open for non-Taiwanese players. The final standings will be used for the entry for the Tour events in the next season.
