2013 Taiwan LPGA Tour Fubon Ladies Open Second Round Recap
Date:2013-09-28

16-year-old amateur Cheng Ssu-Chia (程思嘉) shot even-par 72 to finish with a one-under 143, heading into the Sunday final round of the Fubon Ladies Open with a one-shot lead.

Cheng has already one title at hands when she out-performed her seniors at the Chung Cheng Ladies Open in July. However, Cheng admits she was putting maybe too much pressure on herself since.

“I wanted to follow it up with the same level to prove what I’m really capable of,” said Cheng. “But I couldn’t. And I found that the pressure I gave myself was too big and my thinking got complicated.”

“Now, after two months, I feel like I got through that kind of a struggle finally.” Cheng had two birdies and two bogeys each, although it took her a barely acceptable 32 putts to complete the round.

“I had some mistakes reading the greens,” said Cheng. “I’ll have to keep what I did great today, but maybe go for a little more when good chances come.”

First-round leader, Malaysian Ainil Johani Abu Bakar had a 4-over 76 and dropped to a tie for ninth, but still being just three shots behind Cheng.

Japan Step-Up Tour rookie, Taiwanese Tsai Pei-Ying (蔡佩穎) took off to a flawless start as she made three birdies over an 8-hole stretch and climb up to the lead. But on the par-4 9th, her shot went into water as she ended with a double-bogey. Another bogey right after on 10th basically spent away what she’d earned.

“The wind during those holes was so messy that I misjudged a few of my shots and my lead was gone quickly.”

“I tried to be more aware of the wind direction after then,” said Tsai. “But the wind was like on and off and I kind of struggled with my own rhythm.

Tsai is among a group of three at 144 and still has a great shot at victory with New Zealander Caroline Bon, and Thailand’s Tiranan Yoopan.

Defending Champ Phoebe Yao (姚宣榆) is sitting 2 strokes back of the leader after a 75 second-round. “The greens were really difficult, which is how I came up with a strategy but nothing seemed to really work.” “For tomorrow I can only pray,” joked Yao.
