Taiwan’s Tsai Pei-Ying (蔡佩穎) lifted her third trophy in 2024 in a third different country on Friday at TLPGA Tour’s Taya Group Ladies Open, having already notched victories at the Australian Women’s Classic in Bonville and Yasuda Ladies Open Golf Tournament in Osaka.
She shot a low-round 68 today at the Chianan Golf & Country Club to take her third win of the year at 10-under 206, which is worth NT1,080,000.
The Japan LPGA Tour campaigner has concluded her fruitful season, and will go back to Japan to attend the JLPGA Tour Awards ceremony before opening her 2025 season at TLPGA Tour’s Hitachi Ladies Classic.
“I have been feeling comfortable all week, actually. I feel my game suits the Chianan course well. This has been a wonderful last tournament of the year for me,” Tsai said. In fact, Tsai recorded a hole-in-one during practice earlier this week.
“The back nine was a little tricky, so I was looking carefully on how my playing partners played as a good reference, which helped me to earn that important birdie on the 15th,” said Tsai, who gained a crucial two-shot edge over co-leader Nook Sukapan after the Thai player bogeyed the same hole. And she held onto that lead for the rest of the day.
Tsai landed 15 greens in regulation in the final round, which turned into five birdies. She managed to be the only player in the final flight, alongside overnight co-leaders Nook Sukapan and Lee Min (李旻), to registered an under-par score on the inward nine. Sukapan squandered her solo lead after dropping consecutive shots on 14th and 15th, and finished in a three-way tie for second at 208 with Chen Hsuan (陳萱) and Kultida Pramphun; while Lee struggled to find her rhythm all day before carding a 36-37 1-over 73 to finish in a tie for sixth.
Going out with nine straight pars, Chen Hsuan felt proud she could conjure up some late magic to score five birdies on the back nine, three on the last three holes, and wrapped it up as the runner-up. “Yeah, it was a little disappointing I missed those par putts on the 14th and 15th, but I was really happy I got to leave the bad feelings behind so quick and finish strongly,” said the Taiwanese, who missed four greens in regulation and registered a final-round 69. Thailand’s Kultida Pramphun’s low-round 68 also boosted her into the top-2 finish.
Taya ambassador Wu Chun-Wei (吳純葳) turned in a Friday 72 to finish in a tie for sixth with 36-hole co-leader Lee Min, which is the best TLPGA Tour finish so far in her young career.
The TLPGA Tour heads to a new pitstop this week at the Taya Group Ladies Open. Backdrop of the NT$6-million event is Tainan City’s Chianan Golf & Country Club.
