Ainil Johani Abu Bakar from Malaysia fired a bogey-free 7-under 65 in the second round of the 2013 KENDA Tires TLPGA Open, breaking the course record of the Taipei Golf Club and carrying a one-shot lead into the final round.
Abu Bakar’s 22 putts in a round marked her personal best as well since she turned pro in 2010. She finished today at 6-under par 138 with seven birdies and no bogey throughout the whole day.
Abu Bakar showcased perfect distance shots and her miraculous putting was like the cherry on the cake, beating the course record and put herself in a very good position for her first TLPGA title and a NT$600,000 winner check.
“I will try to enjoy the final round tomorrow as much as I can just as I did today!” Abu Bakar said.
Taiwanese player Liu Yi-Chen (Babe) (劉依貞), who finished last week in solo fourth at the Chung Cheng Ladies Open, also left to the clubhouse with a bogey-free performance of 69, trailing one stroke off the leader at 5-under 139.
“It was better than I expected,” said Liu, who was one of the only two players to have scored at under-par in both rounds. The other to have achieved the same is Hsieh Yu-Ling (謝瑀玲), finishing at double-71 142 and currently sitting in the fourth place. Liu will be eyeing her second TLPGA victory and Hsieh seeking her first.
First-round leaders “Money” Chien Pei-Yun (錢珮芸) and Lin Tzu-Chi (林子麒) failed to impress today. Chien hit 72 and moved down on the leaderboard to no.3, while four bogeys wrapped up Lin’s disappointing day at 4-over 76, and she has fallen down the list in a tie at 8th.
Former LPGA player and KENDA Rubber star Teresa Lu (盧曉晴) will have a lot of work to do in tomorrow’s final round as she shot 77, finishing at 153 in a tie for 30th.
The KENDA Tires TLPGA Open by Kenda Rubber Ind., Co., Ltd. is a new event in 2013, boasting a total purse of NT$3 million.
64 players survived today’s cutline at 14-over 158. First group will tee off at 7am and final group of Abu Bakar, Liu, and Chien will start at 8.45am. |
