Juliana Hung (洪玉霖) lifted her sixth TLPGA Tour trophy, following July’s Jing-Mao Ladies Open victory, today at the Ta Shee Golf Club.
Hung needed four play-off holes to finally send Liang Yi-Ling (梁宜羚) down to a second-place finish. This is the second straight Heritage Tour event where Liang finishes as the runner-up.
Hung was no stranger to earning things the hard way and winning on extended holes. The 21-year-old clinched her maiden Tour title two years ago at the KENDA Tire TLPGA Open after a seven-hole play-off. Now, she has held six titles already, with a first taste of success in the Heritage Tour series.
“I did not think I would have the lowest score when I finished. So, I came a little unprepared during the play-off. I got lucky here,” said a humble Hung, who played in the fourth to last group today.
Hung finished the regular round with a 2-under 70, and was asked to return to the par-4 18th for a tie-breaker with Liang, who later carded a 71 to share the top place of the leaderboard on 1-under 143.
The tie remained unbroken after Hung and Liang shot six straight pars on the 18th hole.
Both players moved to the 3rd tee as the fourth play-off hole began. And it was where Liang made a crucial mistake ---she carried the tee shot long and left, leaving her with a challenging 11-foot par putt, which she failed. Hung calmly secured a par to claim the victory.
39 TLPGA Tour golfers are competing through 36 holes for a total prize of NT$600,000 in the “Heritage Tour” pro-junior series event alongside 37 amateur and junior players. The Heritage Tour concept were developed to provide a platform for the young golfers to closely interact with the pros and pick up valuable learning experience.
“There’s a different vibe in the Heritage Tour events, as we are playing with the junior players. I’m glad that I get to collect a win here,” said Hung.
This is the seventh edition of the BNP PARIBAS Heritage Tour with was first staged in 2016. The competition layout is set at 6,331 yards long this week, which covers the East Course and Central Course at the Ta Shee Golf Club. Hung’s victory is worth NT$71,000.
