Defending champion Wang Li-Ning (王莉甯) used two late birdies to outshine Chang Ching-Ling (張靖翎) and Ku Meng-Chen (古孟宸) and take another YTS & SUNCITY Heritage Tour crown on Wednesday. The win is worth NT$94,700.
Wang started the day two shots behind Liang Yi-Ling (梁宜羚) at 1-under par. She drained a crucial 12-footer on the 16th for her fifth birdie, while having made six bogeys, in Wednesday’s final round, which brought her into a 4-way lead on even-par.
On the 17th, Wang secured another easy tap-in birdie to emerge as the solo leader, before she closed the 36-hole tournament with a winning “par” as no one could match her score of 1-under 141.
This is her second straight YTS & SUNCITY Heritage Tour title. These are her only TLPGA Tour victories.
“I felt great these past few weeks. I was playing at a decent level and the Jing-Mao Construction event as well as the GRIN Cup last week, where I finished in the top-3, and finally I was able to really bring out the best of my game altogether to take the victory,” said Wang. “I was hitting some very big tee shots, and my irons were setting up the putts nicely. Everything kind of just clicked.”
Wang, who averages over 270 yards off the tees, aims to make some final tuning on her consistency and fitness to get fully ready for a Japan LPGA Tour test to be held at the end of this month.
Overnight leader Liang Yi-Ling (梁宜羚) dropped out of contention with a 4-over front-nine. She wrapped it up in a tie for fourth at 1-over 145 with Huang Ching (黃靖) (71) after a disappointing final-round 76.
Suncity Club home-course player Ku Meng-Chen could not convert any chances until the final hole, where she rolled in an incredible 40-footer. Her final-round 1-over 73 sent her into an equal second finish at even-par 144 with Chang Ching-Ling.
Chang Ya-Chi (張亞琦) briefly took the lead around the turn at 1-under par, but lost three shots on her way inward and fell into a tie for sixth at 1-over 145.
Chang Hsuan-Ping (張瑄屏) also let a potential win slip from her after making a bogey and a triple-bogey on her last two holes. She went from 1-under par through 14 holes to 3-over and finished out of the top-10.
The Heritage Tour event, co-sponsored by the YTS Technology and the Suncity Golf Club, provides a total purse NT$800,000. The YTS Group is one of the top airtight window suppliers in Taiwan.
In the “Heritage Tour” event format, the amateur and junior players are paired with the professionals, so the young ones can closely interact with local elites and pick up valuable learning experience in the two-round competition.
There were three amateur players from Japan invited into this week’s 93-player field, who stepped on the Suncity Golf Course for actually the second time after joining a special training session here last year alongside thirteen fellow Japanese golfers. And finally, two of the three players took the victories in their respective groups.
The TLPGA Tour Test held concurrently saw Hung Chieh-Ning (洪婕寧) continue to take the top standing with a second-round 73. Player who would register a 12-over 228 or lower after three rounds of play will earn a TLPGA Tour card. |
