History’s made at the Chang Gung Golf Club at the 2013 Chung Cheng Ladies Open. At 15 years and 9 months, Taiwanese amateur Cheng Shih-Chia (程思嘉) becomes the youngest player ever to win a TLPGA Tour professional tournament. She held off the leader in the first two rounds, Korean A Ram Cho, to hit another low round of the day with a 2-under 70, finishing at an impressive 7-under 209 to claim her first victory in a professional event.

Cheng beats Ye Na Chung by four shots, but the winning prize of NT$1.2 million goes to the Korean.

Leader to start the day, Cho, melted after a double-bogey on Hole 7 that threw her off the lead and only finished with a 4-over 76, dropping to the third place at 214. Still, she takes away the runner-up prize of NT$600,000.

“I’m very emotional right now because this was like a dream come true,” said Cheng. “I feel so grateful that I had everyone’s help and support to get me to where I am, the Orient Golf & Country Club where I grew up, Miss AngieTsai (蔡麗香), Miss Tseng Hsiu-Feng (曾秀鳳), both great mentors, and of course my family!”

Started playing at 8, Cheng was born a very stable character, which helped a lot as an athlete. She became the youngest player ever at 13 in TLPGA history to be playing at a pro event at the 2010 Hitachi Ladies Classics, and now a victory to her name.

On the 7th hole when things started to go in Cheng’s way, Cho hit her tee shot into a trunk which cost an extra shot to get back onto the fairway. Cho ended up with a double-bogey on that hole to find herself trailing by one stroke. On Hole 9, Cho again found herself in trouble to leave with a bogey, while Cheng made a successful 15-foot birdie putt, earning already a 3-shot lead going into the back nine.

Another meltdown on the 12th where Cho dropped yet two more shots basically closed the chance she had, before Cheng parred the last four holes to seal the victory.

Winner at also this Chang Gung Golf Club five weeks ago at the Chung Cheng Heritage Tour, Taiwanese player Liu Yi-Chen (Babe) (劉依貞), finished even-par at 1-under 215, sitting in solo fourth with the third-placed prize of NT$360,000.
