Overnight leader Chang Hsuan-Ping (張瑄屏) carded a second straight 68 on Friday to win the 2023 YICHEN Heritage Tour, a 36-hole TLPGA Tour event.
This is Chang’s first victory in seven years after her winning run in 2016 at the Pacific Links International TLPGA Heritage Tour.
Chang Ya-Chun (張雅淳) shot a low-round 66 to finish in a tie for second at 136 with Chang Ching-Ling (張靖翎), who turned in a final-round 68.
Chang Hsuan-Ping, starting the day with a one-stroke lead, never faced any real challenges. She made three birdies through five holes from 5th to 9th, and left the chaser hopeless with another pair of birdies after the turn on the 12th and 14th. Despite a dip of concentration on the 17th, which resulted in her lone bogey, she still closed with 4-under 68 for a four-shot victory.
“I was not paying attention to the leaderboard and finally on the last hole I saw the friends gathering around the green, holding the water bottles, and I knew I might have had it in the bag,” said Chang Hsuan-Ping. I want to thank my team, my family, and my main sponsor SAMPO for all the love and care. I hope I will get a bigger title very soon.”
TLPGA Chairwoman Liu Yi-Chen expressed gratitude toward venue sponsor Lily Golf & Country Club, as well as her “students” who have gathered as individual sponsors to make this tournament possible in the challenging pandemic times. They have now continued their sponsorship supports for the fourth year in a row.
Chang Ya-Chun scored six birdies, zero bogey today to jump from 2-over to a 4-under finish, tying for runner-up along with Chang Ching-Ling. “The air was damp and a little heavier than yesterday, so I felt I got more control on the ball today,” said Chang Ya-Chun. “And yeah, I was more comfortable with my new set of clubs. I feel if there is 18 more holes, I’m confident I’ll be closer to the lead.”
Chang Ching-Ling made one eagle, four birdies and two bogeys. To her delight, she succeeded on three chipping attempts, which contributed to the eagle on the 4th hole from 40-yards, as well as two birdies on the 13th and 17th.
In the “Heritage Tour” event format, the amateur and junior players are paired with the professionals, so the young ones can closely interact with local elites and pick up valuable learning experience. In the Women’s Amateur Group A, Tseng C-Y. (曾芷盈) used a 1-under 143 to beat the field. The score would put her in a tie for as high as sixth on the pro-group leaderboard. |
