First-round co-leader Chang Ya-Chun (張雅淳) shot a second-round 71 to grab the outright lead at 1-over 145 at the Wistron Ladies Open. The four-round event features a season-high $500,000 purse.

An Ho-Yu (安禾佑) and Phoebe Yao (姚宣榆) sit one-shot behind at 146. Chang Ching-Ling (張靖翎) was in solo fourth at 147. 2020 winner Shih Cheng-Hsuan (石澄璇) fell into solo seventh at 150. Cheng Ssu-Chia (程思嘉) carded a low-round 70, rising up 24 places into a tie for eighth.

Thailand’s Chonlada Chayanun is the best international player currently in a tie for tenth at 151 halfway through the week.

A cut was made at the end of today, sending 53 players at 17-over 161 or better into the third-round, including one amateur player Liao Hsin-Chun (廖信淳), who made it through the cutline with an 80-74, 10-over 154.

Rains continued to drop in the second day of the 2022 Wistron Ladies Open. The second round was forced into rain delay at 11:00 this morning but fortunately play was able to resume after just one hour.

Chang Ya-Chun utilized the break to cool herself down and recharge, coming back to close the round in red number. She picked up five birdies in the round, highlighted by a successful 21-footer on the 3rd hole. She needed just 27 putts, 6 less from yesterday.

The effort was compromised by occasional mistakes; one coming into notice was a double-bogey on the par-4 17th where, down the wind, Chang used four attempts to finally reach the green. “Every minute is learning in tough situations like we have here at the Sunrise. Strong winds, coupled with rain left us little to work with. The player who makes the least mistakes will come out on top,” Chang said.

Japan LPGA Tour player Phoebe Yao kept her percentage high, making 12 fairways and taking just 26 putts. She completed the round with a 72 including four birdies and four bogeys.

An Ho-Yu, who stroke an ace in the first-round, also turned in a 72. “I had some solid hitting, and some lucky bounces with my irons, hit 15 greens, which was pretty good, but my putting was something that held me back today,” said An, who missed a number of birdie attempts and wrapped up the round having made 32 putts. “I tried to flatten the shots, which worked well in the heavy winds. I’ll probably continue to do so, keep things simple, do not over-think.”

Chang Ching-Ling crept into lead at the turn after shooting three birdies on 2, 3, and 9, but she closed out the round poorly with consecutive double-bogeys.

On the par-5 18th, Chang’s third shot couldn’t escape the water trap and as a result, she made a second double-bogey in a row to fall back from the co-lead with Chang Ya-Chun. “I was trying to be a little more aggressive, when I had the lead. I thought I still pretty much did what I wanted to do, but it was tough luck for me especially in that last couple of holes,” said Chang Chin-Ling.

Hsu Wei-Ling (徐薇淩), highest-ranked player in the field, moved into the third round with a Thursday 75. She is tied with Chien Pei-Yun (錢珮芸), Tsai Pei-Ying (蔡佩穎), Chen Ling-Jie (陳伶潔), and Huang Ching (黃靖) in equal 14th at 9-overr 153.

Set at 6,318 yards long for the week, the Sunrise golf course has hosted some major international events such as the LPGA Taiwan Championship, and it was also chosen as the venue of the 2017 Taipei Summer Universiade.

Wistron, one of the global leaders in the ICT (Information and Communications Technology) field, has been an important partner with the TLPGA since 2006 and hosting the annual Wistron Ladies Open since 2020.

Last year, the total prize money of the Wistron tournament had increased from NT$6 million in its inception year to NT$10 million ($330,000). This year, the 2022 Wistron Ladies Open became the richest tournament on the TLPGA Tour with a total prize of $500,000.

The third-round competition tees off Friday morning at 7 a.m.. Four Hole-in-One prizes will be on offer on No.2, 4, 11, and 16.
