Shih Huei-Ju (石惠如) of Taiwan captured her second TLPGA title in this season at the 2013 TLPGA & Wu Fong Heritage Tour with a three-stroke victory over Chen Szu-Han (陳思涵). The TLPGA no.3 fired a final-round 71, becoming the only player to have sent an under-par score over two rounds of competition, to finish at a 1-over-par 145.
“I controlled my putt a lot better than yesterday,” said Shih. “I didn’t really look at the leaderboard. I was there just trying to play the way I wanted it and I’m glad I made it.
“My ultimate goal for this year has to be a JLPGA wildcard. I’m going to play the second qualifying round this October and hopefully everything goes well.”
Shih came into this week as the highest ranked and the reigning Technology Cup winner in early June, but she had to overcome a slow start on Day 1 with her inconsistent putting.
Shih made 32 putts in the first-round but cut it down to a 27 today, which was highlighted by an inspiring 30-foot birdie putt on the 13th. It brings her the third career TLPGA victory and the second this year, with a winner prize of NT$110,000.
It was not really a one-man show as the final score might suggest. Chen I-Wen (陳依妏) , who made up for a three-shot deficit with three consecutive birdies, jumped onto a tie for the lead with Shih before they hit on the back-nine. However, Shih’s consistency proved too good in the end. Chen hit 74 to finish at 149 and solo third.
21-year-old Chen Szu-Han carded a double-74 148 to take the runner-up prize with NT$75,000 paycheck. First-round co-leader Yvonne Weng (翁子琁) suffered three bogeys and one double-bogey, dropping to a solo fourth finish at 151.
The TLPGA & Wu Fong Heritage Tour is one of the five pro-junior events on the 2013 schedule, in which the pros are playing with the amateurs and the juniors in the same group. The series was made to create a valuable chance for the younger and the more inexperienced to play besides the pros and learn. |
