2022 Taiwan LPGA Tour | KENDA Tire TLPGA Open 21– 23 Sep Final-Round Recap
Date:2022-09-23

Juliana Hung (洪玉霖) lifted her second straight title at the KENDA Tire TLPGA Open. She cruised to the victory after a brilliant front-nine and upset her playing partner and 36-hole co-leader Shih Cheng-Hsuan (石澄璇) with a final-round 70, which was two strokes better. The winning total of 5-under 211 is worth NT$540,000.

Hung needed a seven-hole play-off last year here at the Taifong Golf Club to clinch her first TLPGA Tour victory, but didn’t really confront any real challenge throughout today despite a nervy start, in her own words. “I was literally shaking when I started,” said Hung. However, she kept her composure to find three birdies already at the turn, while Shih scored none.

Shih did convert her chance on the 10th hole to narrow the gap to one shot after Hung’s bogey, but the Kiwi-Taiwanese quickly took back control with a 5-foot birdie right on the next hole.

Shih committed her first bogey of the day on the 13th hole, which gave Hung a three-shot lead again and the leader just carried it until the final hole.

Although Hung missed the final green and bogeyed the 54th hole of the week, she happily embraced a second successive win here at the KENDA Tire TLPGA Open.

“I need to say thank you mom for the support. I gave myself some more pressure because I won here last year and really wanted to do well again, and my mother has been so supportive so I could get through this the way I hoped,” said Hung. “Yeah, it’s great that I didn’t have to go through the play-off again, but it’s still been a tiring week. I’ll need to keep working on my fitness to be able to find more consistency.”

Hung said she was secretly setting a goal to go as low as 10-under, but she didn’t reach her own expectation, “I’m very happy for now, but I know it’s time to keep working and move on from here. It’s my second victory this year and I hope there are more to come.”

Chen Yu-Ju (陳宇茹) brought herself into equal-third finish at 214 Chen Min-Jou (陳敏柔) and Hanna Chen (陳子涵) after a late rise with three birdies in her last three holes.

Huang Ting-Hsuan (黃亭瑄) came up with a final-round 71 to finish in T12 at 219, which also won her the low-amateur honor. Huang will be preparing for the LPGA Tour’s second-stage qualifying in the U.S. in the coming weeks.

The KENDA Tire TLPGA Open, in its ninth year, celebrates KENDA’s 60th anniversary, whose iconic models Hole-N-1 and Pro Tour are used in the manufacturing of 80% of the world’s golf cart wheels. “I would like to take this opportunity to thank KENDA Tire for your continued support. It’s been a ten-year journey and I hope we will create more future together,” said TLPGA chairwoman Liu Yi-Chen. “Thank you again for aligning with us and seeing what we see valuable.”
