Thai LPGA Tour money leader Patcharajutar Kongkraphan made a fitting end to a stellar 2022 Thai LPGA Tour season. She shot a final-round 65 at the BGC Thailand Ladies Masters, the final tournament of the 2022 Thai LPGA Tour and a co-sanctioned event with the Taiwan LPGA Tour, beating another Money Winner contender Chonlada Chayanun by one shot.
The BGC Thailand Ladies Masters is the tenth and third oversea pitstop on the 2022 Taiwan LPGA Tour.
Kongkraphan completed with a final total of an impressive 18-under 198, winning herself a THB$600,000 (NT$504,000) top prize in the THB$4 million (NT$3.36 million) event.
Kiwi-Taiwanese Juliana Hung (洪玉霖) made a final-round 7-under 65 to rise into a tie for 11th at 8-under 208, lowest score from the seven Taiwanese golfers who made the cut yesterday.
Chang Ching-Ling (張靖翎), with a Friday 66, finished in a tie for 13th at 209. Lynn Chiu (邱齡緹) closed the week at 213 and T34. Rookie pro Chang Ya-Chun (張雅淳) and Wang Li-Ning (王莉甯) wrapped up the week in Hua Hin in equal 37th.
36-leader Chayanun entered the day with a one-shot advantage over Kongkraphan, who was another three shots above the rest of the field. The two exchanged birdies in the competitive final-round dual, before both moved onto the 54th tee at 17-under. In the end, Kongkraphan converted her birdie chance on the par-5 final hole to shut the hopes of par-finishing Chayanun.
TLPGA’s Juliana Hung made improvements as the tournament progressed, finishing with a 72-71-65, 8-under 208. The strong final-round performance includes one eagle on the 13th hole, seven birdies, and two bogeys, lifting her from T36 into a T11 finish.
Hung got off to a comfortable start with four birdies already in the bag at the turn. However, she went a little up-and-down on the back nine, having quite of a run on the 13th and 14th with two highlight-worthy plays, but also dropped two shots; she made an 18-foot eagle putt on the par-5 13th, and followed it up with another beautiful putt from 27 feet on the 14th. “I’ve been pretty confident with my putter all week, and it’s the first time my new Aussie coach is here with me since we began our partnership two months ago. Today, he definitely gave some new lights on how to approach every hole. They were very helpful,” said Hung. “It didn’t go as well as we thought in the first two rounds but today it just all came together. I’m really happy with the way I played today.”
Chang Ching-Ling, who had a first-round 67 but slumped with a 76 yesterday, found her range again on Friday. She needed just 25 putts, scoring eight birdies at the cost of just two bogeys, finished strongly with a 66 to move into a T13 finish.
“I tried to keep things simple, and today everything just felt under control. I didn’t even have much trouble hitting from the sand,” Chang said. “To be honest, I’m feeling and hitting great this week. I think the fast greens in Thailand suit my game. But there’s room for improvement on the mental side. The thought of trying to play too well put unnecessary pressure on myself, and I was getting a little annoyed by not performing to my expectations.”
Lynn Chiu holed out from 63 feet on the 11th hole to score one of her four birdies in the final-round. “I was really just going for my shots this week, knowing the ball can stop on these greens at the Black Mountain,” Chiu said. “But yeah, playing aggressive sometimes leads to more errors. I’m still trying to find the balance.” Chiu made three bogeys to seal her final-round at 1-under 71, which completed a final-total of 3-under 213.
Also with a Friday 71 was Chang Ya-Chun, who made five birdies, two bogeys, and one double-bogey today and wrapped up the week on 2-under 214. Chang felt her putting was the best part of the game and one great take-away from this week, “I’m gaining lots of confidence with my putter this week, perhaps with how great the greens were.” Highlight of Chang’s round was a 37-foot birdie on Hole 7.
This 2022 BGC Thailand Masters is recognized by the WWGR (World Women’s Golf Rankings). Layout this week at the Black Mountain Golf Club is set at 6,276 yards. |
