2013 Taiwan LPGA Tour | TLPGA & Wu Fong Heritage Tour First Round Recap
Date:2013-07-04

Players struggled under the first day heat at the 2013 TLPGA & Wu Fong Heritage Tour. Three of the TLPGA top 20, Taiwan’s Yvonne Weng (翁子琁), Shih Huei-Ju (石惠如), and Chen Szu-Han (陳思涵) currently topped the leaderboard tied with 74.

The TLPGA Heritage Series heads to the Wu Fong Golf Course, Taichung, where 31 players will be competing over 36 holes for the NT$110,000 champion prize.

It was not an eventful day as players had to overcome the high temperatures in typical Taiwanese summer. Weng scored three birdies and that was one of the most exciting performances in today’s opener. The TLPGA no.19, who just turned 34 a month ago, was pleased with her solid play but gave the credits to her teammates in the “Yu-Chen Training Camp (玉珍團隊)”.

“We had the idea at the beginning of the year, when (Huang) Yu-Chen invited a few of us on the tour to do some self-training on a regular basis,” said Weng. “Now we have eight of us, about seven to ten days every month, we go to different courses and train together. All expenses are covered by ourselves.”

“It’s great because we’re all players. I mean, no one knows better than we do about ourselves,” added Weng. “On the course, we have to compete with each other, but off the course, we are there to help each other, which is a great feeling and at the end of the day, we all feel like we’re getting better and better as a player. That’s the most important.”

“I’m feeling really thankful to be part of this.” Weng said. However, plan starter Huang Yu-Chen(黃玉珍) was not so lucky with her day, finishing with a 9-over 81 and sitting at T19.

The TLPGA & Wu Fong Heritage Tour is one of the five pro-junior events on the 2013 schedule, in which the pros are playing with the amateurs and the juniors in the same group for the passing and “heritage” of the experiences. The concept is also one of the main focuses for the TLPGA in nurturing the young talents.
