2022 Taiwan LPGA Tour | GRIN Cup Charity Open 28 – 30 Jul Tournament Preview
Date:2022-07-27

The fourth top-tier, open event on the 2022 TLPGA Tour is going to tee off on Thursday, with the second edition of the GRIN Cup Charity Open returning into action after cancellation in 2020 due to pandemic restrictions.

Backdrop this week is the Taiwan Golf Club, which was nicknamed by the locals as “Old Tamsui Course”. 51 TLPGA members and 20 amateurs will be playing through three rounds; the pros will be vying for a NT$600,000 top prize in the NT$3.3 million event.

15 senior players will also be featured in an 18-hole event on the final day. The winning senior takes home NT$50,000.

Charity donation raised before and throughout the tornament by GRIN, a leading membrane material manufacturer in Taiwan, will be used to endow three local organizations. To show respect and love to his wife, who has been fighting the Alzheimer′s, GRIN president Lin G-E. holds an online photo and video exhibition concurrently. The meaning of this event is also to remind people to capture and treasure their moments with their loved ones.

Defending champion An Ho-Yu (安禾佑), who won the first ever GRIN Cup in 2020 as an amateur, returns to the Taiwan Golf Club now as a pro.

2020 runner-up Phoebe Yao (姚宣榆) is riding on a fine momentum after capturing her first victory in Japan in four years at the Shizuoka Shimbun & SBS Ladies last month, a JLPGA’s Step-Up Tour tournament.

Two-time TLPGA Tour winner this year, Lee Hsin (李欣) will be aiming for a triple, while 2021 TLPGA Tour Money Winner Wu Chia-Yen (吳佳晏), Tseng Chen (曾楨), and Cheng Ssu-Chia (程思嘉) look for a second title in 2022. Cheng, who also competes on the LPGA′s developmental Epson Tour, is fresh off a victory at the Island Resort Championship, winning by a whopping 6-shot margin.

Other TLPGA Tour titlists in the field include Lin Shan-Wei (林善葳) (formerly known as Lin Tzu-Chi), Babe Liu (劉嬿), Hsieh Yu-Ling (謝瑀玲), Chang Ching-Ling (張靖翎), and Juliana Hung (洪玉霖).

Set at 6,390 yards long, the competition layout features newly renovated fairways and greens. The players tested the course for one last time in a pro-am event held today. Babe Liu led her quartet to winning on an 18-hole total of 12-under 60.

First-round action is set to begin at 6:30 on Thursday morning. A cut will be made to the top-40 and ties after 36 holes.
