Lee Min (李旻) claimed her fifth TLPGA Tour title today at the NT$6-million WPG Ladies Open. This marks the ninth career professional win for her, which is worth NT$1.1 million.

Co-leaders after 36 holes, Lee created a two-shot advantage right after Hole 1 over Juliana Hung (洪玉霖) with a 15-foot birdie. Lee’s tee shot on the 3rd hole bumped into the right woods but she saved the crisis in style and followed it up with a birdie on the 4th with an impressive 21-footer; meanwhile, Hung struggled, who failed to send the par putt into the 4th hole and suddenly, the gap became as prominent as four shots.

Lee made the turn carrying a five-shot lead and despite dropping shots on the 11th, 14th, and 15th, her cushion is too big to break. Lee shot a Friday 73 to wrap up the week on a winning score of 6-over 220.

“I felt like I remained calm in these frustrating conditions, that set me apart in this final round,” Lee said, who received a new special 3D-printed trophy. “During the lockdown, I had more time with myself and I kind of tried to speak with myself spiritually and learned to accept every side of me, which helped me to feel more comfortable and confident in every tournament. I believe this peace in the mind is what carried me through to the win.”

WPG-SACg president Chen K-Y. presented the winner’s check and was “amazed by the difficult layout the Sunrise Golf Club provided,” Chen said. “The pins were tucked near the slopes. Tough setup and very high difficulty level. These ladies are world-class. I look forward to bringing this event back next year in May and I hope more international players would be able to join the tour by then.”

Chen Yu-Ju (陳宇茹), charging with birdies in around the middle of the day, narrowed the gap to two after the turn, but gave away three shots in the last five holes to fell into solo fourth at 225.

Defending champion, 17-year-old Wu Chia-Yen (吳佳晏) bounced back nicely with a final-round 1-under 71, making a last minute birdie and completing the tournament in solo second at 222.

Juliana Hung dropped back to solo third at 223 after a 76. “It was a pretty difficult day. It’s always going to be a tough day when you only manage to hit 8 greens,” said a teary Hung. “It was very tense and I lost it a little after missing a number of birdie putts. Felt really angry at myself.” Hung only scored one birdie.

Chen Min-Jou (陳敏柔), Wu Hsiao-Ling (吳曉玲), and An Ho-Yu (安禾佑) finished in equal fifth at 228.

Huang Ting-Hsuan (黃亭瑄) wrapped it up with a 230 to take the low-amateur honor, which put her as high as no.11 on the leaderboard.
