2013 Taiwan LPGA Tour Chung Cheng Heritage Tour First Round Recap
Date:2013-06-10

Chang Ching-Yun took the first-round lead by 2 shots with 71 at the 2013 Chung Cheng Heritage Tour at the Chang Gung Golf Club on Monday. Chung Cheng Heritage Tour is a 36-hole format pro-junior event. The top finish of the Group Professionals will receive a NT$71,000 winner prize.

The 30-year old Chang, who bases her training mainly on this Chang Gung course, played a solid drive and iron combination to birdie 5 holes in the first round. She had a 3-under coming into the par-4 18th, in which, however, it cost her 4 shots to finally hit the green as her first ball went into the right-side bush and she ended the day with a double-bogey. Still, She would take a 2-shot lead over Yi-Chen Liu (Babe) (劉依貞) before tomorrow’s final 18.

“I feel comfortable on this course and I think I had a solid day overall,” said Chang. “The greens are quite challenging though.” She needed 30 putts in today’s round. Chang is now more focused on her coaching career than actually playing, which, in her words, has lightened her and allows her to play with less stress.

Su Kai-Yun (蘇楷雲) and Wu Ying-Yi (吳英儀) tied for the third place with 74. Lu Ya-Huei (呂雅惠), Chen I-Wen (陳依妏), and Chen Szu-Han (陳思涵) all hit 75 to finish at T5. Technology Cup winner Shih Huei-Ju (石惠如) shot a 5-over par 77 and is currently tied for tenth.

Showers scattered along the days at the Chang Gung Golf Club and the officials had decided to adopt the “preferred lies” rule for this year’s competition to reduce the effect of mud to its minimum.

Except for the Group Amateurs of Men’s 16-25, all other amateur and junior players get to play with the pros in the same group, for the purpose of the learning and the experience “heritage”, for which the series of tournaments are named.
