Overnight leader Hsieh Yu-Ling (謝瑀玲) built on her 5-shot advantage to capture her sixth professional victory at the SUNCITY Golf Camp Heritage Tour. She carded a 1-under 71 to finish on 8-under 136 in the 36-hole TLPGA Tour “Heritage Series” tournament.
In a Heritage Tour pro-junior event, the TLPGA Tour golfers are grouped with young amateurs and junior golfers, which provides a platform for the youngsters to closely interact with the experienced professionals while they face their own competitions. More than 60 Heritage Tour events have been held during the past 18 years. The total purse this week is NT$600,000.
Having posted a 7-under, bogey-free 65 yesterday to hold a 5-stroke lead coming into Friday, it’s all on Hsieh to put on a show, especially when it is no easy task to score low on the challenging Suncity Golf Club. Today, Hsieh was visibly trying to play safer, as it was all she needed. “I knew I had a big lead, but I was still hoping to make a step ahead, and I did, so I was really happy about that,” Hsieh said, who rebounded to birdie the 5th hole after a bogey on the 3rd, and snatched another birdie on the back nine to close with a 1-under 71.
Lynn Chiu (邱齡緹) wrapped it up with a 70-71, 3-under 141 to take the solo second place. “I didn’t get to hit close enough today, but I tried to keep patient, make sure I could finish in two putts, and wait for the opportunity to come,” Chiu said. “Anything can happen at the Suncity, it’s a trick course, so I’d just stay steady and see if my chance would come.”
Chang Ching-Ling (張靖翎) scored the low-round 69 on Friday to finish the week in the top 3. “Honestly, I was a bit lucky in the first couple of holes,” Chang recalled on her consecutive chip-in birdies on Hole 1 and 2. “So I was pretty confident all day with two birdies already in my bag. I made some great chipping saves.”
It was third-time lucky for Chen Chih-Min (陳之敏), who made it past the TLPGA membership test that was held concurrently at the Suncity Golf Club, on her third attempt. “I came a little unprepared in my first try, but was very close in the second try. I remember I actually had a five-shot cushion with only five holes to go, but in the end, I dropped six shots and failed. I finally made it this time!” Huang Yu-Ping (黃郁評) and Wen Ti (溫娣) were the other two players to pass the test and become this year’s 15th and 16th new member of the TLPGA. |
