2019 Taiwan LPGA Tour Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open Pre-Tournament Notes
Date:2019-12-10

Past schoolmates, Taiwan Mobile ambassadors Hsu Wei-Ling (徐薇淩) and Lee Min (李旻) faced each other off with a friendly exchange of teasing comments on the pre-tournament presser of the 2019 Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open.

“We’ll see who’s the real deal on Friday!” Lee gave a playful look to Hsu as the latter responded, “we′ll see”. The two good friends have set their sights on “creating a new record” this week. In the 2018 event, Lee was one of the four players sharing the “Most holes-in-one in a single tournament (same hole) (4)” honor, which was later listed in the Guinness World Records this July, for their achievement on the 16th green. “It′s a fun goal. We were saying things like, we are going to work together and ace every par-3. It′s going to be extra motivation,” said Hsu.

Hsu, currently the no.2 Taiwanese golfer at no.94 in the world rankings, finishing the 2019 LPGA Tour season among the top-10 on the “Most Eagles” list. She has captured 10 eagles throughout the year, and a record 4-eagles in an LPGA tournament earned her a nickname “Eagle Hsu” from fellow players and caddies on the tour. “The following week after I made four eagles in a tournament, I remember there was a caddie of another player giving me some nice words about it. He then asked me when I would start my eagle hunt again, and I really did put one more on my scorecard that day. He started to call me Eagle Hsu,” Hsu said. “Every time he saw me, he would always made fun of it. It is hilarious.”

Capping off the 2019 LPGA Symetra Tour season as high as no.4, Cheng Ssu-Chia (程思嘉), who took her maiden victory as a pro at the FireKeepers Casino Hotel Championship in August, opened her way into her third LPGA season in 2020.

“I hope I will get myself in the top-80 on the priority list, and that I′ll be able to play a full Asian swing schedule late in the season and finish the year strongly,” said Cheng of her new year resolutions, who sees herself in a better form after overcoming thyroid disease.

Cheng was just one shot away from a four-way play-off last year at the Tong Hwa Golf Club, but she said she’s already left the memories behind and her only goal would be to go “one step further”.
