2019 Taiwan LPGA Tour Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open Tournament Preview
Date:2019-12-10

The 2019 Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open, serving as the final stop of the 2019 TLPGA Tour, will kickstart tomorrow at the Tong Hwa Golf & Country Club. Taiwan Mobile faces Hsu Wei-Ling (徐薇淩) and Lee Min (李旻) headline a competitive 106-player international field that also features top Taiwanese players on the Korea LPGA Tour, Chen Yu-Ju (陳宇茹), and JLPGA titlist Phoebe Yao (姚宣榆).

The NT$5 million tournament will be played through 54 holes from Dec 11. The winning purse reaches NT1 million.

The field includes all top-20 on the TLPGA Tour money list, making it the strongest ever in the event′s three-year history. Champions from the last two editions, Ploychompoo Wilairungrueng and Lee will aim to become the first player with multiple titles at the season-ending tournament.

This July, TLPGA members Chang Ya-Chi (張亞琦), Hanna Chen (陳子涵), Lynn Chiu (邱齡緹), Lee Min, and the venue, the Tong Hwa Golf Club, landed themselves in the list of Guinness World Records for “Most holes-in-one in a single tournament (same hole)” for their achievement on the 16th green in the 2018 event.

“Taiwan Mobile has been proud to take part in these memorable moments. We hope to continue to drive the interest from the sports community through this amazing event as well as to enhance the overall player experience, giving them an opportunity to test their skills and become better as they try to perform against high-level competition,” said Jamie Lin, Taiwan Mobile General Manager.

Recently concluding the 2019 CME Group Tour Championship with a T35 finish, Hsu Wei-Ling was also the best-finishing local golfer at the LPGA Taiwan Championship in October. In her 28 outings on the LPGA Tour in 2019, Hsu managed two top-10 finishes (solo third at the ISPS Handa Women′s Australian Open). She felt she had a lot more to give.

“I don′t think I have been at a consistent high level this year. There are many things I feel I could do better in hindsight. At the CME event, I was off to a great start with a first-round 4-under but couldn’t stay intense throughout. But it’s always positive to know that you are still doing good even when you’re not at your best,” Hsu said. “I hope I can close the season strongly here on home soil.”

Lin Min, who was part of the big headline this time last year not just because she won the event, but that she made the fourth ace of the week on the historic Hole 16. “The course has been playing longer each year. But I’m ready. I feel I’m playing pretty solid golf at the moment,” said Lee, who just earned her way into the 2020 LPGA Tour through the LPGA Q-Series.

2019 LPGA Symetra Tour no.4 Cheng Ssu-Chia (程思嘉), Symetra Tour titlist Chien Pei-Yun (錢珮芸), JLPGA Step-Up Tour winner Tsai Pei-Ying (蔡佩穎) will also be among the local favorites to come out on top on Friday.

Thai Parinda Phokan will be looking for a third victory on the TLPGA Tour this year, after she triumphed at the Hitachi Ladies Classic and the SAMPO Ladies Open.
