Lin Tzu-Chi (林子麒) completed a five-shot turnaround on Friday to capture back-to-back victories, winning the Nan Yi Professional Ladies Open earlier this month and now conquering the KENDA Tire Open field, after she made a 22-footer for birdie on the first play-off hole to outclass compatriot Chang Ching-Ling (張靖翎).

After 18 regular holes, Lin, who carded 70, and Chang, carding 69, shared the top place on the leaderboard at 4-under 212. Overnight leader Parinda Phokan fell into equal third at 214 with a Friday 77.

Chang putted first on the 18th green from 45 feet in their first play-off hole, but fell just short. Winding back to the 18th hole in the regular round, Chang actually had a 7-foot opportunity to take the victory. The ball tilted slightly to the left.

“I was in the final play-off not long ago at the Kaohsiung City Open. There were five players fighting for that last laugh. Today, there were only her and me, but I was still pretty nervous,” said birthday girl Chang. “I had a couple of chances. When I returned to the 18th hole again today, I left about a 95-yard distance, which was a little in-between-clubs for me. I didn’t want to take too much risk and hit it too short.” Chang turned 25-year-old today.

Lin’s third shot went from 118 yards, and cruised onto the green with 22 feet left to the pin, before she managing a right to left break to steal the victory. Lin was doused in water in celebration, “but would they just not bring those ice buckets again? It was too cold! No ice and no sugar next time, please.” Lin joked.

“I never thought I would win, especially when I actually dropped two shots early on,” Lin said, who was seven shots off the lead through seven holes. “But then Parinda opened that door, and I had some lucky bounces definitely, and I was able to take my chances.” Lin will be playing the Part Golfers Ladies Open next week, and fly to the U.S. in search of her ticket into the third qualifying stage for 2020 LPGA Tour membership.

Phokan made herself disappointed, “I couldn’t really find my game.” The overnight leader with a 6-shot edge made pars on the first eleven holes but leaked mistake after mistake afterwards, finishing with a 5-over 77. Chang and Lin made birdies on the 17th hole and 18th hole, respectively, to deny Phokan’s chance.

Hanna Chen (陳思涵), who played in the last group, wrapped up the week with a final-round 73, which put her in T3 with Phokan, Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, and Wang Li-Ning (王莉甯). Kawinpakorn shot a low-round 6-under 66. Wang carded 69 to record her best finish this season.

Defending champion Lu Hsin-Yu’s (盧昕妤) winning hopes faded when she got trapped in a bunker on the 11th and left the hole with a double-bogey. She closed the round with a 72, falling into a tie with Hsieh Yu-Lin (謝瑀玲) and Arpichaya Yubol for 7th. That score still earned Lu the low-amateur honor.

This is the seventh playing of the KENDA Tire TLPGA Open. The TLPGA-organized event is title-sponsored by KENDA Rubber. It has been moved to the current venue since 2017 following a reconstruction of the previous venue, the Taipei Golf Club.
