There are multiple changes on the first page of the leaderboard during the first round of the Taiwan Mobile Ladies Open. At the end of the day, Taiwan’s Lee Min (李旻) and Thai player Supakchaya Pattaranakrueang emerged as the front runners after day one as they carded matching 68s.

Being tied for third are Taiwanese Wang Li-Ning (王莉甯) and Liang Yi-Ling (梁宜羚), who were one shot back of lead.

Lee scored six birdies, offset by two bogeys to wrap up at 4-under. “I just came back last week. I still have jet lag,” said the LPGA campaigner. “But I tried to use the little time I have on the practice range to make the best preparation I can, especially on the greens, because the green speed is quite different from what I play in the U.S., and it helped a lot. I feel pretty good on the greens today. Actually I’m feeling good all around. It’s kind of windy today, so I just tried to slow it down a bit to really focus on every shot. I’m very happy to be back and play at home.”

Pattaranakrueang also made six birdies and two bogeys. “It’s very windy, but I think I had nice control, making a lot of fairways and giving myself some good chances. The two bogeys I had were about my only misses that made me fail to hit the green on regulation,” said the Thai. “I’ve played Tong Hwa a few times. I’ll see if tomorrow will be as windy as today to decide if I will play my aggressive game.”

Liang, with one title to her name at the 2015 KENDA Tires TLPGA Open, is aiming her second victory with an impressive putting performance. She needed just 25 putts. “Thanks to my college teammate. He’s caddying for the second time for me. And today, he helped me a lot out there to judge the condition because the wind made it a little difficult to see things well,” Liang said. Although she didn’t pick up any win since 2015, she considers herself in decent form. Liang finished as the runner-up last month at the BNP PARIBAS & TLPGA Heritage Tour.

With her flat hitting, Wang tamed the wind and put herself within striking distance with a 69 today at the Tong Hwa Golf Club. “I was feeling better as the day went on. I missed many fairways early on and over-hitting those approaches so I felt like I was saving shots all the time,” said Wang. “It got better into the back nine. I was hitting more accurately.” Wang made three birdies in the last four holes, which began with the confidence booster on the 15th from 30 feet.

Lin Tzu-Chi (林子麒), Cheng Ssu-Chia (程思嘉) and veteran Lu Ya-Huei (呂雅惠) sit in equal sixth with Thai duo Saraporn Chamchoi and Punpaka Phuntumabamrung on 2-under-par.

Tainan Professional Ladies Open winner this past week, Liu Yi-Chen (劉依貞) carded 71 and sit in a tie for 11th. She broke the 18-hole scoring record on the TLPGA Tour win a second-round 62 in Tainan. 17-year-old amateur Hou Yu-Chiang (侯羽薔), this year’s TLPGA Ladies Open – Nan Pao winner, registered an even-par 72. “I’ll need to improve my iron game. I was not timing it well.”

Second-round play begins tomorrow at 7 in the morning with Lee, Pattaranakrueang, and Wang in the last group to go. There will be a cut to be made after 36 holes, sending just players with the low 50 scores into the final round on Friday.
