36-hole leader, Thailand’s Ploychompoo Wilairungrueng took her first title of the year at the ICTSI Champion Tour - Manila Southwoods Golf & Country Club after cancellation of the final-round due to heavy rains. Her winning score of 10-under 134 was four strokes better than compatriot Supamas Sangchan, home girl Princess Mary Superal, and the younger of Taiwan’s Hou sisters, 17-year-old Yu-Chiang (侯羽薔).
The win is worth $15,000. Sangchan, Superal, and Hou walked away with runner-up prize of $6,000 each.
The final round of the ICTSI Champion Tour - Manila Southwoods Golf & Country Club was originally scheduled for a 7:00 a.m. start, but the continual downpour forced the postponement three times to 7:30, 8:00, and 9:00. However, it never showed any sign to stop and the forecast didn’t look promising. The officials finally called it a wrap at 9:00, and would then use the 36-hole scores to determine the final standings.
Waiting anxiously in the clubhouse, overnight leader Wilairungrueng burst out exclamations when the players were told the final round was cancelled and she would be the winner of the tournament.
Hou received the low amateur honor, while her sister Yu-Sang (侯羽桑), who is two years older and also playing as an amateur, finished in equal fifth at 139. Both Hou sisters will be representing Chinese Taipei in golf in the upcoming Jakarta Asian Games which kickstarts on August 12.
Chen Min-Jou (陳敏柔) was the top-finishing Taiwanese at T12 and 1-under 143.
The Manila Southwoods Golf & Country Club is the tenth pit stop of LPGT’s (Ladies Philippine Golf Tour) 2018 ICTSI Champion Tour and the sixth leg of the TLPGA Tour.
Next week, the Tour will move to Tagaytay Midlands Golf Club for the last of the two TLPGA tour and LPGT (Ladies Philippine Golf Tour) co-sanctioned tournaments this year. |
