2016 Taiwan LPGA Tour Chungyuet Group Ladies Open Tournament Preview
Date:2016-07-12

The 2016 Chungyuet Group Ladies Open will bring together an international field comprised of eleven of the top-20 on the prize money leaderboard this season so far, and a total of 92 pro players from seven countries. First-round play begins on Wednesday and the three-round, 54-hole stroke play competition will conclude on Friday as the top finisher will earn NT$450,000 out of a lucrative NT$2.5 million prize purse.

The TLPGA welcomes Chungyuet Group to join the list of the TLPGA Tour sponsors. The Chungyuet Group Ladies Open is an event officially recognized in the WWGR (Women’s World Golf Rankings) system.

The 92-player field sees 79 pros and 13 amateurs from Australia, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, and host Taiwan, who has lined up 56 of its top pro golfers and young amateurs – eleven of them occupying the top-20 status on the 2016 Tour money list, in hopes of to securing the final honor at home. An 18-hole Pro-Am event took the course at the Chang Gung Golf and Country Club today after an official pre-tournament conference.

“I would like to take this opportunity again to publicly thank Chungyuet Group, Formosa Plastics Transport Corp., and Chang Gung Golf Club for their sponsorships,” said Liu Yi-Chen, TLPGA chairwoman. “Yi Jung Timepieces, Mizuno, Kingston Technology, WINWIN, and MU, as well, thank you for pitching in and make this event a fabulous one!”

Liu said on the press conference, “golf is a sport extremely rich of traditions, culture, fine etiquette, disciplines, and charming spirit. It holds no barring on age, race, or physical stature, and apparently we’ve seen it actually comes in the strength of Asian playing style.”

“Japan, Korea, and China and more countries in Asia have all developed strong golf culture and customs that combine and elevate their national image,” Liu added. “Corporates can really play a meaningful role and a catalyst on this golf mission and help our country improve its presence on the global map.”

Taiwan’s Lin Tzu-Chi (林子麒), who won the TLPGA & Royal Open in January, will be in search of her second TLPGA Tour title this year. Lin is now leading the race of the “Pacific Links International TLPGA Tour Prize Money Winner”. Hong Kong’s top amateur and 2016 Kong Kong Ladies Open champion Tiffany Chan is another heated favorite.

Japan LPGA Tour veteran Taiwanese Wei Yun-Jye (魏筠潔), 2015 money winner Kuo Ai-Chen (郭艾榛), current no.5 on the Pacific Links International TLPGA Tour Prize Money Winner race Chen Tzu-Han (陳子涵), no.6 Chang Hsuan-Ping (張瑄屏), no.7 Chen Yu-Ju (陳宇茹), no.8 Yu Pei-Lin (余珮琳), and no.11 Yeh Hsin-Ning (葉欣寧) will also be carrying local hopes this week.

Yeh just claimed her first career win in May at the 36-hole Mercuries Life Insurance Heritage Tour while Chang added a third TLPGA title to her name last week at the Pacific Links International TLPGA Heritage Tour.

2015 Tour winners Chen I-Wen (陳依妏), Liang Yi-Ling (梁宜羚) of Taiwan and Michelle Koh (許莉欣) of Malaysia are looking to repeat their victory runs.

A Swiss-made Seven Friday timepiece, the hole-in-one prize provided by Yi Jung Timepieces will be on offer on the 17th hole, worth a market price of NT$100,800.

The course for this week’s event is set at 6,820 yards long. A cut will be made after 36 holes and only the top-50 and ties will advance to the final round.
