The 24th and last regular TLPGA Tour event on the 2015 calendar, the NT$2.5 million TLPGA Open, will go underway on Wednesday at the Tao Yuan Golf & Country Club.
As the top 48 players in TLPGA rankings, which include 30 pros, 7 amateurs from Taiwan, 10 players from Thailand, and 1 from Korea, set to vie through the three-round, 54-hole stroke-play year-end tournament for the winner prize of NT$500,000, more than 90 players signed up and finally 60 of them from five countries would take this week as the 2016 TLPGA Tour Qualifying Tournament, making the final field 108 players.
The 60 QT entries are comprised of 25 from Taiwan, 27 from Thailand, 5 from Japan, 2 from Korea, and 1 from China. The TLPGA Tour Qualifying Tournament not just helps pave a broader way for the international golfers to pursuing their ultimate dreams, but helps expose local Taiwanese players to international level competition while they hold the chance to earn official world rankings.
Japan LPGA Tour champion Phoebe Yao (姚宣榆) will be among the high profile names this week. Yao won JLPGA’s 2014 Fuji Sankei Ladies Classic last April with a 54-hole total of 9-under-par 207 and finished the year at number 30 on the Tour’s Official Money List. This year, the fourth-year Japan Tour member remains in the top 50 seeds at number 45, which automatically extends her membership throughout the 2016 season. Yao’s joining at the 2015 TLPGA Open back home can bring positive effects on the Women’s World Golf Ranking points given from this event.
Another young star to watch is China’s Shi Yuting (石昱婷), who fired a tournament record 8-under 64 during the second round two months ago at the CTBC Ladies Open, a co-sanctioned event by the TLPGA Tour and the China LPGA Tour where the 17-year-old finished in a tie for third, her best start to date in an TLPGA event.
No matter the outcome on Friday, Taiwan’s Kuo Ai-Chen (郭艾榛) will top the 2015 TLPGA Tour Money List. The Taifong Ladies Open champion will lead other Tour winners this year including Chen Meng-Chu (陳孟竺) and Lu Ya-Huei (呂雅惠) and hope to secure the title at home and end the year on a high note.
The venue this week, the Tao Yuan Golf & Country Club, is set at 6,135 yard combining the South Course and the West Course. A cut will be made to the low 50 scores and ties after 36 holes. The first groups of players will tee off tomorrow at 7:00 a.m. on 1st and 10th. |
